Job Description
Application Production Support Engineer is responsible for
performing hands-on software technical support work as part of the Change and
Configuration Management Production support (CCM) team that is responsible for
providing NSC Production Support. The incumbent will be providing level 2
technical support and troubleshooting for problems with software related issues
for internal and external customers, ensuring issues are resolved in a timely
fashion, and escalating urgent problems requiring more in-depth knowledge to
the Production Support Lead. The incumbent will work with Applications that are
on Informix platform as well as Oracle Platform.
This position will also perform Software Configuration Management (SCM), work closely with the Configuration Management lead, perform QA and Production deployments as needed, upgrade SCM and Operations procedures, and recreate and analyze software problems to contribute to future engineering and development

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 2-3 total years of IT-related experience, including level 1 or 2 software technical support, batch-based/web-based database application development (coding and testing), and SDLC procedures and processes.
• At least 1-2 years’ experience interacting with internal and external users via verbal and written communication.
• Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux based systems required.
• Experience with ASP or JSP, HTML, JavaScript highly preferred.
• Experience with relational database schema design, stored procedures, triggers, and SQL.
• Must live within a commutable distance of Herndon, VA.
DESIRED:
• Experience with Web applications and client/server applications.
• Knowledge of a variety of computer software, network systems, operating systems, and installation procedures.
• Experience with object-oriented analysis and design and object-oriented programming.
• Experience with database management and data structure.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to present technical information to both technical / non-technical audience.
Essential Functions
• Use of computer terminal and/or laptop computer to include
spreadsheet and word processing software, copy machine, fax machine, and
telephone.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for up to 7 hours per day.
• The employee is occasionally required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, and reach.
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, and on occasion the temperature in workspaces can vary.
• Must be flexible to do out-of-town assignments and travel occasionally when needed.
• Travel via car and airplane.
• Must be able to work during maintenance windows & after business hours.
• May be required to provide on-call remote, or 24/7 technical support
• Must be able to travel to remote data center locations as needed.
