PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The mission of the Marine Corps Enterprise Information Technology Services (MCEITS) program is to provide enterprise IT services, service support and the infrastructure necessary to enable a secure, collaborative, interoperable information sharing environment for the warfighting and business domains.

JOB SUMMARY

The Configuration Management Analyst is responsible for the IT Service Management (ITSM) process to identify and track Configuration Items (CIs) through their lifecycle. Responsible for planning, identification, control, status accounting, audit and verification activities to achieve control of the IT system functional and physical assets.  Responsible for quality data management of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) by ensuring that CIs are recorded from established baseline, and attributes and relationships properly maintained throughout the entire lifecycle of the CI record. Reviews released engineering change requests and data to ensure adherence to configuration management procedures and policies.  Participate in the continual service improvement of the asset and configuration management processes and procedures based on ITIL V3 framework

PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) and other meetings to ensure CI’s associated with change requests are compliant with all auditable information for life cycle status.
  • Work Service Request tickets (i.e. Change Requests (CRQs) and Incident tickets (INC)) timely and accurately daily, and associated tasks daily. Complete actions in support of change requests to create or update CIs, and ensure attribute data and relationships to other CIs are accurate. Review incident records requesting CMDB update, prepare respective change records to coordinate and implement the update activity
  • Assist with the establishment, documentation, and maintenance of the CMDB.  Analyze bulk “data” load services for creating large numbers of new records or updates in the CMDB. Participate in architectural development when new types of information need to be captured in the CMDB. Participate in and support discussions around integration of tools as well as normalization and reconciliation of data within the tools.
  • Perform physical and functional audits utilizing various methods of inspection.  Document results and perform corrective actions to resolve discrepancies following documented processes.
  • Develop and maintain reports to support Configuration Status Accounting Reporting. Provide inventory reports or other important KPI reports related to configuration items.
  • Participate and support documentation activities associated with the process, such as Plan, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs).
  • Participate in and support testing activities around new tool implementations.
  • Increase customer loyalty by building solid relationships with the customers.
  • Perform other duties as required.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of related experience
  • Must be organized and detailed oriented
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office Products: Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task, and adaptable to changes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Proven ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, collaborators and partners from a wide range of backgrounds, industries and culture

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS         

PREFERRED EDUCATION/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Configuration Management support role
  • Oracle database knowledge / ability to create ad-hoc SQL queries
  • Full ITIL process knowledge of all Service Transition and Service Operations processes (e.g., Incident, Problem, Change and most preferred Configuration Management) is highly desired.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse and geographically dispersed teams
  • Experience using Remedy 8.1 or other such ticketing/CMDB management tool
  • Experience with query based reporting tool such as BMC Analytics
  • Experience with Visio
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with software and hardware discovery tools, such as HP uCMDB
  • Understanding of data mapping concepts (relative to CMDB data import and uCMDB/CMDB integration)
  • Lots of patience, as position will be repeatedly asked process/tool questions
     

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS:


ITIL V3 Release-Control and Validation (RCV) certification or ITIL V3 Service Transition Lifecycle certification
